University of St Andrews

Founded in 1413, the University of St Andrews is Scotland’s oldest and the third-oldest university in the English-speaking world. Located in the historic coastal town of St Andrews, it is renowned for its excellence in the humanities—particularly divinity, philosophy, and international relations—and remains a significant cultural and academic centre in Scotland.

With around 9,500 students from over 130 countries, St Andrews offers a distinctive, close-knit academic community where the university is fully integrated into the town’s historic landscape rather than confined to a single campus. Its four faculties—Arts, Divinity, Medicine, and Science—offer a modular degree structure, allowing students the flexibility to explore a wide range of subjects in their first two years before specialising.

Undergraduate degrees typically span four years, providing a broad and interdisciplinary academic experience. The university is steeped in tradition, with unique customs such as 'academic families' and the May Dip, contributing to a rich student culture.

St Andrews has received numerous accolades, including University of the Year (The Times and Sunday Times, 2020) and a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). It also offers over 200 master’s programmes and extensive research opportunities, with strong global partnerships for study abroad experiences in the USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, and beyond.

St Andrews combines academic rigour, historic charm, and a truly international perspective, making it one of the UK’s most distinctive and prestigious universities.
